Course description
Learn about American literature from its inception to the present day, and techniques for teaching contemporary American literature to adolescents. Become acquainted with selected significant literary works in a variety of genres from the last 200 years. Explore the teaching of American literature in active, dynamic ways. When taught effectively, literature enables adolescents and others to discern meaning in life and its experiences; to explore cultures, language, and ideas; to be entertained and informed; to understand themselves, others, and the world; and to dialogue about the written word.
