Lane County

Lane County named for Joseph Lane: Lane was one of two US Senators from Oregon in 1860. That year he was nominated by the pro-slavery wing of the Democratic Party along with Presidential nominee John C. Breckenridge. The split in the Democratic Party helped assure a win for the Republicans led by Abraham Lincoln.
