Polk County

Lincoln served his only term in Congress when Polk was President (1845-1849). Lincoln opposed war with Mexico during his term in office. Lincoln wrote in 1846: "Being elected to Congress, though I am very grateful to our friends, for having done it, has not pleased me as much as I expected". Lincoln is a community on the west bank of the Willamette River. It had a post office established there in 1867 until 1901
