A CIVIL WAR ROUND TABLE BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
A CIVIL WAR ROUND TABLE BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION and EVENING WITH PRESIDENT LINCOLN SET FOR WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2008 AT PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY
The Civil War Round Table invites you to a very special presentation on Wednesday, February 13 to celebrate the 199th Birthday of Abraham Lincoln. The commemoration takes place on the 6th anniversary of the same day that PSU history professor Gordon Dodds and Whitman College professor G. Thomas Edwards founded the CWRT at PSU back in 2002. Cake and refreshments will be served at the reception starting at 7:00pm in the Browsing Lounge (Room 238) in Smith Memorial Center.
At 7:30pm, President Abraham Lincoln will take the stage as he will recite portions from his most famous speeches and talk about his personal experiences; and then "Lincoln" will answer the questions of the audience. Stephen Holgate will be bringing considerable expertise to the role, as he is the author and star of the one-man play "A. Lincoln", which made its Portland debut at the Jack Oakes Theater in 2003.The Oregon native most recently portrayed Lincoln in a stirring performance at the "Honoring Lincoln" family day event at the Oregon Historical Society.
The Civil War Round Table and the Friends of History at Portland State University are working with state liaison Mike Burton and the Oregon Lincoln Bicentennial Commission to prepare Oregonians for the celebration of the 200th Anniversary of Lincoln's birthday in February 2009.
This event is free and open to the public. Free parking is available after 7pm in the PSU parking structures. For more information call the History office at (503)725-3917.
