Fort Vancouver

When Abraham Lincoln turned down the territorial governorship of Oregon in 1849, the territory included what are now the states of Washington, Idaho and parts of Montana. A major US outpost was Ft Vancouver located in what is now Washington. The fort has a number of historical links. Generals US Grant (1852),George McClellan (1853) and Phil Sheridan (1855) were all stationed at Ft Vancouver.
