Vigil at "the President"

* DATE: Monday, April 14, 2008. Vigil at "the President" 7pm (10pm EST) to commemorate the Assassination of our 16th President. Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth at approximately 10:00pm on the night of April 14 ("Good Friday") while he and Mrs. Lincoln were attending a performance of "My American Cousin" at Ford's Theater in Washington D.C. Mortally wounded, Lincoln was transported to a nearby home, where he passed away at 7:22am on the morning of April 15. Members from the Civil War Round Table will walk down the South Park blocks to "Lincoln Square" located in the park block across from the PAM scuplture garden between SW Madison and Main.

* WHAT: We will stop for a brief vigil at the foot of the Statue of Abraham Lincoln, to commemorate the 133th Anniversary of the Assassination of President Lincoln. The bronze statue (cast from wax) was created in 1925 by sculptor George Fite Waters, who studied sculpture in Paris under Auguste Rodin. It was purchased by Portland progressive and philanthropist Henry Waldo Coe, (with the proviso that it would never be duplicated) and donated to the City of Portland in 1928.

* WHERE: We will meet at 6:45pm at the Starbucks at the Park Blocks (2 blocks away), located at 1436 SW Park, and then walk over to the Lincoln Statue. For more infomation, call OLBC Commissioner KC Piccard-Krone.
