Coquille Masonic Cemetery

At this cemetery is the grave of Charles Leon Willey (1866-1944). On Sept. 26, 1901, Willey, a plumber, assisted his brother-in-law Leon P. Hopkins, also a plumber, in what would be the final opening of Abraham Lincoln's casket before 22 people. The preserved remains were identified before the casket was resealed and encased in a steel and cement vault. The story of this event was told in the February 15, 1963 issue of Life Magazine.
