National Train Day
On Saturday, May 10, 2008; the Friends of History at PSU along with the
Oregon Lincoln Bicentennial Commission will join NARP and Amtrak in
celebrating the first annual National Train Day which is being celebrated at
train stations across the country. In Portland, the location will be at
Portland State University, where the strong "link" between Abraham Lincoln
and the foundation of America's Railways will be examined in video, music,
historical tomes and literature with a special Saturday multimedia program
on "Abraham Lincoln, His Legacy to Oregon, and his Relationship with U.S.
Railroads: A Program for National Train Day." The program will take place
starting at 10:30am in PSU's Cramer Hall, Room 494 and is free and open to
the public.
Amtrak is using National Train Day to highlight the growing popularity of
trains as convenient, energy efficient, environmentally sound ways to
travel. The Friends of History is the non-profit support group for the
History Department at Portland State University. For more information,
