Lone Fir Pioneer Cemetery - Civil War Veterans

A new Portland Memorial Day custom will be launched on the 140th anniversary of the national holiday's official observance. Volunteer guides from the Civil War Round Table's "Lincoln Scholars" will be on hand at Lone Fir Pioneer Cemetery (S.E. 21st and Morrison) to answer questions about the Civil War Veterans buried there, tell them about the CWRT and hand out self-guided tour pamphlets showing the location of the gravesites with short histories on the former "Union and Confederate Soldiers Who Made Oregon Their Final Resting Place".

Lone Fir should be a beautiful place to visit this month thanks to the historical restoration work of Friends of Lone Fir Members like Becky Oswald and Mary Glenn (guest presenters at our October CWRT meeting); with families arriving to lay flowers and Boy Scouts placing miniature American Flags on the graves of all American War veterans.

The CWRT will be leading tours on Sunday, May 25, and Monday, May 26, with tours starting under the "Friends of Lone Fir" canopy adjacent to the War Memorial. Hours for the tours are from noon to 3pm, weather permitting. "Union and Confederate Soldiers Who Made Oregon Their Final Resting Place". is another project created with the valuable assistance of Lone Fir members to commemorate the upcoming 200th Anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's Birthday, and two of the OLBC Commissioners will be on hand at the event.
